AGENDA Media Traning in July 2017

On July 19, 22 and 28 AGENDA organized Media Training on Media Guidelines on Reporting Accessible Election in Surabaya, Semarang and Palembang respectively. Each training discussed topics on understanding disability, accessible election and its implementation in each province, media and disability as well as reporting accessible election. In Surabaya, 21 media representatives from print, online and broadcast media participated in the training (18 men and 3 women) and 9 disabled people organization (DPO) representatives participated in the training (7 men and 2 women). Choirul Anam, Commissioner of Provincial KPU of East Java gave presentation on accessible election in East Java regional head elections. In Semarang, 20 media representatives from print, online and broadcast media participated in the training (16 men and 4 women) and 10 DPO representatives participated in the training (8 men and 2 women). Diana Ariyanti, Commissioner of Provincial KPU of Central Java gave presentation on accessible election in Central Java regional head elections.  In Palembang, 21 media representatives from print, online and broadcast media participated in the training (15 men and 6 women) and 7 DPO representatives participated in the training (2 men and 5 women). H. Aspahani, Commissioner of Provincial South Sumatera gave presentation on accessible election in East Java regional head elections. Task Force Meeting in Phuket, Thailand

On June 22-23, 2017 AGENDA’s Disability Rights Advisor participated on the 3rd AICHR Task Force meeting on Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in ASEAN in Phuket, Thailand. AGENDA Disability Rights Advisor was the AICHR Indonesia representative in the meeting. The meeting focused on  developing an outline for the Regional Action Plan on Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in ASEAN, taking into consideration the priority areas identified in the Mobilization Framework of ASEAN Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2011-2020.  Press release of the event can be found at:

AGENDA Organizes DPO Coordination Meeting Ahead of AICHR Regional Dialogue

The General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA), a creative partnership of disabled people’s organizations (DPOs) and election-focused civil society organizations in Southeast Asia, organized a meeting of disability rights advocates on June 18 in Phuket, Thailand, to discuss recommendations for the access to justice, disaster risk management, and entrepreneurship for people with disabilities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community. Twenty DPO participants from 10 ASEAN countries took part in the coordination meeting. DPO participants shared the draft position papers that resulted from the coordination meeting with participants of the third ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Regional Dialogue on Mainstreaming Rights of Persons with Disabilities on June 21, 2017.

The 3rd AICHR Regional Dialogue, Phuket, Thailand

On 19-21 June, 2017 AGENDA’s Program Manager and Disability Rights Advisor participated on the 3rd ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Regional Dialogue on Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in ASEAN in Phuket, Thailand. This Dialogue built on the previous two regional dialogues the AICHR convened in 2015 and 2016. The 2017 Dialogue focused on the issues pertaining to access to justice, persons with disabilities as entrepreneurs and disability perspective in disaster risk management. AGENDA was acknowledged as one of the collaborative partners in organizing the dialogue by AICHR Thailand. Press release of the event can be found at:

Hani ILC organized Advocacy Toolkit Workshop

On June 14, 2017  AGENDA’s partner in Vietnam, Hanoi Independent Living Centre (Hanoi ILC) organized advocacy toolkit workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam. The workshop aimed to disseminate and distribute the toolkit to young leaders of DPOs and develop advocacy strategy to increase political participation for persons with disabilities  in Vietnam.
